Year 6: Autumn Term 2024

 Welcome to Year 6

We are delighted to welcome you to our Year 6 class page where you will gain an insight into some of the learning we will be doing throughout the year. Take a look at our curriculum overview to see what we have planned this year.

Our History this term is 'The Mayans' and we have lots of exciting and challenging lessons to look forward to. Our class novel this term is 'Wonder', which links to some of our English Writing. This is a great story where the children will follow the life of a ten year old boy who faces but overcomes great difficulties. In our Science lessons we will be learning about 'Electricity' this will give us lots of opportunities to carry out investigations and learn about circuits, conductors and insulators.

In maths, we will be focusing on place value initially and then moving onto mental and written addition and subtraction. Reading is extremely important and we will read daily in class and we expect the children to read at least three times a week at home and record this in their reading diary. The children will be rewarded with our bronze, silver and gold reading bands if they reach the target number.

We will keep you updated with key information and photographs on our Class Dojo page and we will also upload photographs of our learning on here too. Please come and speak to us in the morning or at home time if you have any concerns or send us a message on class dojo and we will get back to you.
