Mrs Darbyshire
Welcome to Year 1A
Happy New Year, welcome back to year 1, we already had a busy first week back.
Our Learning Journey:
English: In English we will be retelling and changing 'The Enormous Turnip.' We will then read Oliver's Vegetables and write our own menus. Then learn how to write a letter to Mrs Monaghan to see if we can get our favourite food on the menu.
Maths: In Maths this term, our units will cover place value to 100 multiplication and division, fractions, money and time.
Topic: Our topic for Summer 1 is the U.K in Geography where we will learn all about our local area. Our history topic in Summer 2 is Hospitals and Nurses. We learn about what hospitals are like now and compare them to the past.
Science: In science we will be learning all about Plants. We are planting our own seeds and watching them grow up till May half term.
RE: In RE we are going to be exploring units called 'Resurrection' and 'Miracles'.
Computing: In computing we’re covering the 'Animated Stories', 'Coding' and 'Spreadsheets' units on Purple Mash.
Key Reminders
Phonics:
In year one we have daily phonics lessons which will progress at a speed suitable for each child. A helpful way to help children improve with their phonics at home is to read daily with them. If you would like additional support for your child’s phonics journey there are lots of helpful videos online. I would recommend the following: RWI Speed Sounds (Set 2 & 3)
Class Dojo:
Class Dojo is the most affective with to communicate with me, and is how I send out important updates and information. If you need to speak to me please do so via Class Dojo, or feel free to speak a member of staff from our class before or after school.
