Welcome to Year 1A
Happy New Year, welcome back to year 1, we already had a busy first week back.
Our Learning Journey:
English: In English we will be retelling the story of 'Zog' and writing diary entries from the perspective of someone living in London during the Great Fire of London. In Spring 2, we will be focusing on Traditional Tales and writing senses poetry based on the Great Fire of London.
Maths: In Maths this term, our units will cover place value within 20, addition and subtraction with 20, place value within 50, length & height and mass & volume.
Topic: Our topic for Spring 1 is the Great Fire of London in History. We will then move onto learning about the city of London as our Geography unit in Spring 2.
Science: In science we will be learning all about Animals Inc. Humans.
RE: In RE we are going to be exploring units called 'Families and Celebrations' and 'Following Jesus'.
Computing: In computing we’re covering the 'Lego Builders', 'Technology Outside School' and 'Maze Explorers' units on Purple Mash.
In year one we have daily phonics lessons which will progress at a speed suitable for each child. A helpful way to help children improve with their phonics at home is to read daily with them. If you would like additional support for your child’s phonics journey there are lots of helpful videos online. I would recommend the following: RWI Speed Sounds (Set 2 & 3)
Class Dojo is the most affective with to communicate with me, and is how I send out important updates and information. If you need to speak to me please do so via Class Dojo, or feel free to speak a member of staff from our class before or after school.
