Our Learning Journey:

Maths: In maths this term, our units will cover place value within 20, addition and subtraction with 20, place value within 50, length & height and mass & volume.
Topic: Our topic for Spring 1 is the Great Fire of London in History. We will then move onto learning about the city of London as our Geography unit in Spring 2.

Science: In science we will be learning all about Animals Inc. Humans.
RE: In RE we are going to be exploring units called 'Families and Celebrations' and 'Following Jesus'.

Important Notices:

  • PE is every Monday. Please have your full PE kit in school every week! This includes the school T-shirt, black shorts and black pumps. The children will keep their PE kits in school until the end of the term when I will then send them home to get washed ahead of the next term.
  • Homework will be sent home each Friday. This will be a mixture of maths and English activities and will be a great insight into what the children have been learning that week in class!
  • Reading books will be sent home daily. It is important that you read with your child every night. Children will also be read with at least three times a week in school with an adult.

In year one we have daily phonics lessons which will progress at a speed suitable for each child. A helpful way to help children improve with their phonics at home is to read daily with them. If you would like additional support for your child’s phonics journey there are lots of helpful videos online. I would recommend the following: RWI Speed Sounds (Set 2 & 3)

Class Dojo:

Class Dojo is the most affective with to communicate with me, and is how I send out important updates and information. If you need to speak to me or would like to arrange a meeting, please do so via Class Dojo, or feel free to discuss anything with a member of staff from our class before or after school.

Thank you,

Mrs Garnett, Mrs Emilia & Miss Cairns
