Welcome

May I wish you a warm welcome to our school website.

My name is Mrs. Monaghan and I am proud to have the privilege of serving St Joseph's and its community as Headteacher.

We are uniquely different as a Catholic school. Prayer, worship, Gospel values and the celebration of Mass as well as preparation to receive the Sacraments are central to what makes us a Catholic school. Jesus is at the centre of all our work, relationships and dealings with each other.

St Joseph’s is a Good School. (Ofsted September 2019). Its staff and leaders are confident in the strong teaching and learning opportunities they are providing for the children as well as having a clear vision, and direction for further improvement.

The Quality of Education is GOOD, Behaviour and Attitudes are GOOD, Early Years is GOOD and Leadership and Management are GOOD.

We will continue to strive to maintain these high standards for all.

St Joseph’s is a school where everyone is encouraged to achieve their best. But in addition to raising academic achievement, we also aim to develop character, embed important values for life and build confidence and self-esteem.  Our aim is to enrich the lives of our children and to provide a breadth of opportunities for everyone.

St Joseph’s has wonderful children who want to learn, and dedicated, caring adults who always put the children first.

The interior of the school is warm and welcoming with big airy classrooms, high quality resources, interactive whiteboards, well stocked ICT equipment and happy, smiling children. We have a large sports hall for P.E lessons and extra-curricular clubs as well as for use by the community. We also have a school hall for assembly, worship and lunchtimes.

Our school is a safe environment with high quality security, fencing and lighting to ensure the safety and welfare of our children and school community. We are also fortunate to have a superb playground with a spidernet, climbing stack, trim trail, nest swing, multi use games area as well as a pirate ship.

St Joseph’s invests heavily in human resources, which we believe is the best way to raise attainment and meet the needs of our children. All our members of staff are fully committed to the school and dedicated to their task of promoting high quality teaching and learning as well as caring for the personal, social and spiritual development of the children. Our teaching staff has a breadth of knowledge and wealth of experience, along with new ideas to offer our children and to inspire them with well-planned and exciting learning opportunities.

We believe that good behaviour is crucial to maintain the positive and caring ethos of the school. Our priority is to use clear systems and processes that support positive behaviour, engage children in their learning and help them develop a positive and responsible attitude towards one another, the school and the school community.

We also focus intentionally on attendance and punctuality. The children need to be here every day 'on time at ten to nine' to learn and thrive. We hold parents to account for ensuring their child/ren are here everyday, supporting them to make good decisions and make sure their child/ren have quality to good teaching and learning and reach their potential.

We are constantly seeking to improve the provision we give. In education, as with all life, things change, and we constantly face new challenges, both in terms of developments in education and expectations of the children and parents. We aim to be a vibrant core in the community, as well as forward looking in our attitude to education.

I hope our website gives you an insight into our school, but no website can be a substitute for a visit to the school. Please telephone the school office to arrange a visit.

I look forward to the opportunity of meeting you personally.
