Welcome to Year 5!
We are really looking forward to an exciting and engaging spring half term and can’t wait to get started with the children.
This term, pupils will be exploring a range of stimulating topics across the curriculum. In History, we will be learning all about World War Two, focusing on why the war began, who was involved, and key events such as the Battle of Britain and the Blitz, helping children to develop a deeper understanding of life in Britain during this significant period. In Science, children will investigate the Properties of Materials, taking part in hands-on experiments and practical investigations to develop their scientific skills and curiosity.
Our class novel this term is Goodnight Mister Tom by Michelle Magorian, which links beautifully to our history learning and provides many opportunities for discussion, empathy and high-quality reading and writing.
Reminders:
• Children are expected to read regularly at home and have their reading records signed. It is advised that they do this every evening. Ten minutes a night will make such a difference!
• PE this term will be on Monday morning. The children will need to keep their kit in school until the end of the term when they will be able to bring it home to wash.
• Homework will be sent out on a Friday and this is to be completed either in their homework book or online and will be due back the following Wednesday.
• Spellings will be sent home on a Friday and children will need to learn these words for the following Friday.
I will keep you updated on our Class Dojo page with photographs and messages and I will update you with key information on here too.
We have an open door policy and we are happy to speak to you about anything you are concerned about, or want to know more information about, so feel free to grab any of us before or after school or you can message us on ClassDojo.
Here's to another great term in Year 5!
