FINAL WEEK OF YEAR 4

Dear All

This year has definitely been one of the strangest times we have all had a St Joseph’s.  We (Miss Jarvis, Mr Gaughan & Mrs LaRocque) have all loved teaching you and helping you learn and would have loved to finish this school year with you physically at school.

When you return back to school in September you will be in Year 5. You might be in different classes and with different teachers.  Please do not worry – just be excited.  It will be a new adventure for you all and we are sure you will have a fabulous time.

Take care over the summer holidays and have fun!

Huge ‘social distancing’ hugs

Miss Jarvis, Mr Gaughan & Mrs La Rocque JJJ

GRAMMAR

Brackets to indicate parenthesis

The most common way to show parenthesis is to use brackets within a sentence.  They are used to add information for detail or clarification. What is key to remember is that the sentence to which the parenthesis is being added should make grammatical sense whether the information in the brackets is there or not.

Eg -  John (a 7-year-old cat from Doncaster) hid in the engine area of his owner's car for a 60-mile trip to the seaside

European People and the Rest of the World

There are lots of different kinds of people in the world and in our country and one of the ways in which we are different is the colour of our skin. It is important to make sure that all people are treated fairly not just because of the colour of their skin but for all our differences that should make the world we live in great.

Many people had big street parties to celebrate the end of the war. These street parties would mean that people brought tables and chairs into the street and every house would make food to share. It was like a huge party. People would play music and decorate their houses. Everybody was proud of the soldiers and their country and wanted to celebrate this.

Roald Dahl Biography

Hello Everyone,

We hope you had a great Easter and ate lots of chocolate. It is still a strange time as we are not back at school but remember we are always thinking about you and thinking about how we can keep you busy at home.

Our topic this term is ‘Passport to Europe’ and we will be learning about Europe and the countries that belong to Europe.

In English the genre is ‘Biographies’ and together we will be researching and writing about famous people.

Please look below at the timetable below of what is in store for you. Each day we will be putting on new links, word documents, etc that will help you learn.

Missing you all

Miss Jarvis, Mr Gaughan and Mrs LaRocque

Welcome to a new school year at St Joseph’s and especially to Year 4.  We are really looking forward to working with your child and we are sure it will be a fabulous year.  There will be lots of hard work but also lots of fun will be had as well.

Communication is key to your child’s success and for a wonderful parent/teacher relationship so  we encourage you to contact us via the office if you have any concerns or questions. We will be more than happy to meet with you after school.

Please do look at the subject pages as we will try our best to add the activities and information the children learn during the day at school.

Brass Band Christmas Festival - 06/12/2019

Year 4 really enjoyed performing at today’s Brass Band Christmas Festival. It provided the perfect setting for them to showcase their newly acquired musical skills. Thank you to Mr Sagar for teaching them this term and for leading the performance. The children were delighted to see so many parents and grandparents in the audience. Thank you for supporting the children – it was a lovely start to the festive events.

Computing using a micro:bit - 21/11/2019

Year 4 enjoyed using the micro:bits for the first time today. They learned what they are and how to program them. Their first task was to create a scrolling message or a simple animation. They can't wait to use them again!

Year 4 Cinema Visit - 14/11/2019

Year 4 enjoyed a wonderful trip to the Vue cinema to watch 'How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World'. The children were impeccably behaved and a credit to the school. Thank you Mr Patel for sorting out the tickets for all of our class - it was very kind of you.

First week in Year 4

Important info:

* Homework will be handed out on a Friday with an expectation that it is completed for the following Wednesday.  It will consist of both English and Maths work.

* Please read with your child every night and remember to sign that you have heard them.  This has an enormous positive effect on  your child's learning.

* In the Autumn Term, Year 4 go swimming on a Wednesday morning.

* If your child has joined an after school sports club then another sports kit is needed. This can be a football kit, tracksuit or any t-shirts and shorts.  Trainers can also be worn.
