English

LO: To write my own Zog story.

Today I would like you to begin to write your own Zog story.  You need to use your story map from last Friday’s lesson to help you.  Try to write a sentence for each of the pictures on your story map.

A good example of an opening sentence might be, ‘Long, long ago there was an huge orange dragon called Zog and he went to dragon school.’  Each sentence needs to have a capital letter, a full stop, an adjective (to describe what something it like) and if you are feeling clever a bridge word (and, but or because) to make your sentence longer.

Please don’t try to write all of your story in one go, I want you to write quite a long story so I want you just to do the first half today and you can complete it tomorrow.

Maths

LO: To understand tens and ones.

Today’s Maths lesson follows on from the lesson that you did last Friday.  We are still thinking about 10s and 1s, but today we are thinking about how to write this as an addition sum.  Watch this video of Mrs Barraclough explaining what you need to do, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xeZ75lwaXM

Now choose some numbers, write in your book and then show the tens and ones for the numbers as well as a part, whole model and an addition sum.  Try to choose a range of different numbers up to 50.

Science

LO: To identify and name a variety of animals that are carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.

Today we are going to think about sorting animals into different groups depending on what those animals eat.  There are 3 groups of animals, carnivores which eat meat, herbivores which eat plants and omnivores which eat plants and meat.

Begin by watching a video of a song to help you to remember the different types of animals, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yrikH2QEFA

Now have a look at the video to get a bit more information, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BWC4sxt0vU

Now have a look at the bottom for an activity sheet with pictures of different animals on it.  Print out the sheet and then cut and stick the animals into 3 different groups in your book; carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.  If you don’t have a printer draw 3 or 4 animals in each of the groups instead.

English

LO: To write my own Zog story

Today I want you to work to finish the story about Zog which you started yesterday.  Again please don’t rush through it, think carefully about each sentence and try to write at least one sentence for each picture on your story map.  Remember that each sentence needs to have a capital letter, a full stop, an adjective (to describe what something it like) and if you are feeling clever a bridge word (and, but or because) to make your sentence longer.

Maths

LO: To represent numbers to 50.

Look at this table which I have started to fill in for different numbers up to 50.

After that print out the table at the bottom of this page and fill it in using different numbers of your choice up to 50.  Try to choose a number in the 10s, 20s, 30s and 40s.  If you don’t have a printer then draw out the table in your book.

R.E.

LO: To retell the story of The Good Samaritan.’

Watch this video of the story of ‘The Good Samaritan’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSfm2xdKau4

When you have watched the video think about and discuss these questions with your adult;

-How do you think the man felt as he walked along the road?

-Then what happened?

-Why didn’t the priest stop?

-How did the man feel?

-Why did Jesus tell us this story?

Now please draw a picture and write a few sentences to tell the story of ‘The Good Samaritan.’

LO: To describe the character of ‘The Gingerbread Man.’

Watch this video of the story of ‘The Gingerbread Man’, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pckuS--UlV4

Now I want you to think about the character of the Gingerbread Man.  What does he look like and what sort of character is he?

Draw a picture of the Gingerbread Man and then write some sentences to describe what he looks like and what kind of.  Examples of good sentences could be, ‘The Gingerbread Man is brown and crumbly.  He is rude because he said ‘you can’t catch me I’m the Gingerbread Man.

Remember a good sentence has a capital letter, a full stop, an adjective and a bridge word (and or because).

Maths

LO: To find 1 more and 1 less than a number.

We have found 1 more/less than numbers before, but today we are going to have a look at larger numbers going up to 50.

Print out the number grid to 50 from below.  Choose at least 6 numbers (you can do more if you want) and then colour them in on the grid.  Then choose 2 different colours and use these colours to colour in 1 more/1less than the numbers which you chose.  After you have done this choose at least 3 of your numbers and write them into your books and write the number 1 more/1 less than it.  Finally show these numbers as tens and ones.

This afternoon I want you to do something in preparation for English tomorrow.  Following on from our story of ‘The Gingerbread Man’ this morning I want you to try and make some gingerbread men.  You could either follow this recipe to make some gingerbread men to eat or if you cannot do this then you could make a gingerbread man using card or collage materials.

There are lots more ideas on line if you search for ‘gingerbread man crafts’.

LO: To write instructions about how to make a gingerbread man.

This morning, I want you to think back to yesterday afternoon when you made a gingerbread man either by baking or by using crafts.  I would like you to write some instructions to explain what you did.

Have a look at the bottom of the page to see an example of instructions about how to make pancakes.  This should give you a starting point for your own instructions.

In school this afternoon we are celebrating World Book Day.  Here are a few ideas of things that you could do at home to celebrate.

-Write some sentences and draw a picture to tell me about your favourite book.  What is it about?  Why do you like it so much?

-Make a bookmark with pictures of your favourite book characters on.

-Design a new front cover for your favourite book.

-Decorate an egg like a character from a book, send me a picture to see if I can guess which character I have chosen.

-Listen to your adult read a story to you or there are some links below of some stories that you might enjoy.  Maybe have a hot chocolate whilst you are listening to the stories.

If you click on the yellow world book day icon on our class page (next to the remote learning icon) then there are other activities which you can have a go at as well.
